With his signature, Gov. Brown will extend our cap-and-trade law, reaffirming our state’s role as a global leader in climate action.
California’s legislators voted to extend our cap-and-trade law, reaffirming our state’s role as a global leader in climate action.
This is a victory for cleaner air for our families and lays a strong foundation for California in the years ahead. Thanks in large part to your efforts, AB 398 and AB 617 will ensure that California has a more prosperous future and will force polluters to clean up their act.
AB 398 extends California’s cap-and-trade law, enforcing our cap on greenhouse emissions and requiring corporations to pay for their pollution. Though the bill is not perfect, the framework of AB 398 allows us to make further improvements down the road, and it will provide needed investments for clean energy and clean transportation throughout the state.
If signed into law, AB 617 will clean up local air pollution in some of the most environmentally-burdened areas of California, protecting vulnerable communities that have long suffered the consequences of pollution and providing critical advancements in air quality to the hundreds of thousands of California kids with asthma.
Act now: Thank Gov. Jerry Brown for leading on climate and urge him to sign these bills into law.
